This research explains the comparison of regulations on mosque loudspeakers between Indonesia and Muslim countries in the world. The Roots of Modern Political Secularism and its Critique.Muhammad Fajar Pramono & Bayu Sunarya - 2023 - Kanz Philosophia : A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism 9 (2):293-310.
Discussions about politics and human power, including discussions about the concept of the state, have been a discussion that has been going on since Greek times until the time of the growth of Islamic philosophy. The overemphasis on the power of reason led early modern Western societies to reject religion in all political discourse. At this stage, all views of man, power, the constitution, and the state eventually ceased to be associated with God. On the other hand, especially among Muslims, (...)

Clinical Ethics in Pediatrics: An International Perspective.André Kidszun, Pablo Lezama-Del Valle, Jagdish Chinnappa, Priya Pais, Arpana Iyengar, Erwin J. Khoo, Janicke Syltern, Fajar Raza, Sarosh Saleem & John D. Lantos - 2019 - Journal of Clinical Ethics 30 (1):35-45.
In this article, we first review the development of clinical ethics in pediatrics in the United States. We report that, over the last 40 years, most children’s hospitals have ethics committees but that those committees are rarely consulted. We speculate that the reasons for the paucity of ethics consults might be because ethical dilemmas are aired in other venues. The role of the ethics consultant, then, might be to shape the institutional climate and create safe spaces for the discussion of (...)

Understanding theodicy and anthropodicy in the perspective of Job and its implications for human suffering.Muner Daliman, Hana Suparti, Fajar Gumelar, Ezra Tari & Hengki Wijaya - 2022 - HTS Theological Studies 78 (4):6.
Suffering is often experienced by those who obey God, while happiness is experienced by those who do not know God. This study aims to re-examine theodicy about disasters and calamities and tries to provide alternative thoughts regarding the relationship between God, accidents and humans, based on the story of Job. This research methodology is a qualitative approach through library research, by reading books and journals and investigating related books. Hermeneutic principles are also used to understand the meaning of the signs (...)

Contrary to the widespread assumption, philosophy in the Islamic world did not begin with al-Kindi nor ended with Ibn Rushd (Averroes). This article looks into the metaphysics part of Sayf al-Din al-Amidi's kitab al-Nur al-Bahir fi al-Hikam al-Zawahir ('The Splendid Light on the Bright Wisdom') in order to show the continuity of philosophy in post-classical period.

Ibn ʿArabī’s School of Thought: Philosophical Commentaries on Fuṣūṣ al-ḥikam, not a Sufi Order.L. W. Cornelis van Lit - 2023 - Journal of Islamic Philosophy 14:162-187.
Followers of Ibn ʿArabī are considered to constitute an “Akbari” school of thought. The use of the term ‘school’ assumes some sort of cohesion, but the nature of this has been little studied. I argue that adherents found a substitute for the in-person study sessions (sing. majlis) that were common among Sufis, by identifying Fuṣūṣ al-ḥikam with Ibn ʿArabī. Thus they were able to establish a direct connection with their preferred master by reading and commenting on this book. By placing (...)

The thematic system in the construction of Arabic Sufism communities and Islamic identity.Muhammad Y. Anis, Mangatur Nababan, Riyadi Santosa & Mohammad Masrukhi - 2022 - HTS Theological Studies 78 (4).
This research aims to investigate the thematic system of Arabic texts, especially Arabic Sufi texts related to al-Hikam aphorisms. Thematic structure is defined as the set of options relating to ‘information structure’, the linguistic representation of extralinguistic experience and how a Sufi constructs an information structure in al-Hikam aphorisms. In this case, the extralinguistic experience is focused on the Arabic Sufi communities. The first problem of this research, about thematic system in al-Hikam aphorism related to Arabic Sufi (...)

  14. Concerning Ibn 'Arabi’s Account of Knowlegde of God Al Haqq.Andi Herawati - 2013 - Kanz Philosophia : A Journal for Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism 3 (2):219.
This paper reveals the concept of ma'rifa developed by Ibn al-'Arabi (d.1260), , especially in his magnum opus, Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam, the late work considered to the synthesis of his doctrine of metaphysics represented through the wisdom of each prophet; their uniqueness of divinely inspired and their epitome of spiritual perception, concerning the knowledge of God. It shows the transformative role of the prophet’s messages involving in the deeper creative process of divine-human dialogue, calling and response, that is repeatedly mentioned in (...)

Unity and multiplicity of Ibn ‘Arabī’s philosophy in Indonesian Sufism.Ismail Lala - 2023 - Asian Philosophy 34 (1):45-55.
ABSTRACT The connection between the unity of God and the multiplicity seen in the universe represents the central concern for the Sufi thinker, Muḥyī al-Dīn ibn ‘Arabī (d. 638/1240). It deeply affected the thought of the Southeast Asian mystic, Ḥamza Fanṣūrī (d. 1590?), and his alleged disciple, Shams al-Dīn al-Sumatra’ī (d. 1630). Traces of this idea, through its popularisation in the poems of Fanṣūrī, exert a powerful influence on the Indonesian intellectual topography to this day. This article investigates the concept (...)

Observations Concerning the Development of Early Commentaries on the Wisdoms of Ibn ʿAṭāʾ Allāh al-Sakandarī (d. 709/1309) – The Emergence of a Tradition. [REVIEW]Florian A. Lützen - 2023 - Journal of Islamic Philosophy 14:188-219.
This article investigates the emergence of the first commentaries on al-Ḥikam al-ʿAṭāʾiyya (ʿAṭāʾian Wisdoms), written by Ibn ʿAbbād of Ronda (d. 792/1390) and Aḥmad Zarrūq (d. 899/1494), from within their respective contexts. Particular focus is placed on how the tradition of commenting on the text was undertaken against the backdrop of the formation of the Sufi movements and concerns from the scholarly community. The formation of the Shādhiliyya coincides with these first commentaries on the Wisdoms, and hence, it is no (...)
